This spring, Mrs. Campbell's vocational agriculture students competed in the annual Aquaculture Challenge hosted by the Great Lakes Sea Grant Network and Lake Superior State University. This year, 48 teams from public and private schools throughout the Great Lakes region competed in the competition.

The students designed a recirculating aquaponics system that grew tilapia and buttercrunch lettuce, which they were able to harvest and use to serve fish tacos at the April 2026 board meeting. At the conclusion of the competition, the students were awarded the Most Innovative Design Award for the entire Great Lakes region!

You can view the virtual awards presentation below (the EHS project highlight occurs at 28:24 and the award is announced at 39:48). Additionally, Mrs. Campbell and her students were recently featured in the Ohio Sea Grant newsletter published by the Ohio State University College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences.
